Professional Growth Opportunity: Earning Your APR

By Jenna Todoroff, APR, PRSA St. Louis Accreditation Chair

First, I hope you are doing well and staying healthy.

As the world continues to face the COVID-19 pandemic, public relations professionals are finding that our day-to-day job looks a little different from what it was a few weeks ago. Our communication has shifted from in-person meetings to teleconferencing and virtual events. Our messaging is less promotional and more reassuring and hopeful as our clients deal with the crisis. And now, more than ever, we are putting a heavier focus on digital campaigns, relying on social media, the Internet and online strategies to tell stories and remain relevant.

In these uncertain times, we don’t know where things will stand a week, a month or year from now. We do know that PR will evolve (for the short term and inevitably longer) as we navigate through this global health crisis.

Many of you may be working from home and finding additional time on your hands during the evenings and weekends. Now may be a good time to advance your career and consider earning your Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).

The APR is one of the most valued credentials in public relations. It sets you apart from your peers and positions you as a leader and mentor in the competitive public relations field. It emphasizes your skill set as an accomplished practitioner, possessing excellent competency in the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) needed to thrive in our ever-changing industry.

The APR is a distinguished professional certification and is earned with merit. As your APR Chair, I am here to help you earn your APR. Join me on Tuesday, April 28, as I will share my tips for success — from preparing for your panel presentation to studying for your computer-based examination. This workshop is beneficial to those at any point in their APR journey.

Due to the current health crisis, this meeting, which was originally scheduled as an after-work event, is now a Zoom session. Click here to learn more and to register for the 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. virtual session.

With April being APR Month, now is the perfect time to start your accreditation journey and continue in your path to PR success. I hope you can join us!
